Should I Wear Blue Light Glasses All Day

Artificial blue light sources are abundant in the average household. Should I wear blue light glasses all day?

Let’s find out the truth here.

Should I Wear Blue Light Glasses All Day Every Day?

Digital screens have become a part of our lives. Even if you don’t use your computer for work, you probably use one to play games or read your social media feed.

Every time you use a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone, consider wearing blue light glasses.

Wearing these glasses all day even if you’re not looking at your computer is also okay. Your eyes or vision won’t suffer from wearing blue light glasses all the time.

We couldn’t get away from screens, no matter how much we try. That’s why these blue light glasses are extremely popular now.

They are also available in stylish looks, like these blue chic glasses.

You put them on at the start of your work day or when you watch a Netflix movie. The best time to wear these glasses is when you’re using the computer or watching TV.

Should You Wear Blue Light Glasses More Often?

Wearing them all day won’t hurt you. But are they the most effective method of filtering harmful light? Can they help in reducing eye strain?

There’s not enough study to know the difference in eye strain between placebo glasses and blue light glasses. If you think that they are giving you relief from digital eye strain, then wear them all day.

The studies about blue light-blocking glasses are limited. Some blue light glasses can help with digital eye strain.

If you are sensitive to light and it’s triggering your migraines, then these glasses have been proven effective.

In that case, you can wear your blue chic glasses as much as you want. If you feel that the glasses reduce eye strain or they help you function better, then wear them as long as you want.

It is also safe to wear them all day. For instance, if you wear them and forgot to take them off because they’re indeed chic, then it is safe to do so.

However, if you are looking for a resinous protection against light sensitivity or your migraines, you may consider photophobia glasses.

How Long Should You Wear Blue Light Glasses?

Although there’s nothing wrong with wearing these glasses all day each day, there’s still the right time to wear them.

You must wear them when you’re using a desktop monitor. If you look at a computer screen for at least 8 hours a day, then wearing these glasses can reduce your exposure to blue light.

Despite wearing these glasses for protection, you should still blink frequently and practice the 20/20/20 (I talked about it here.)

After you use your computer for 8 hours, you follow it up with hours of using your handheld devices like smartphones, tablets, and e-readers. They, too, emit blue light.

Thus, it makes sense to use your blue light glasses when you are reaching for these handheld devices.

When you go outside, should you wear these blue light glasses? After all, sunlight also has a blue light.

You may wear them but you should wear glasses that allow a healthy amount of blue light into your body. Remember that sun exposure is also good for the body because it’s a good source of vitamin D.

Is It Harmful to Wear Blue Chic Glasses?

Wearing these glasses may be a good solution for your digital eye strain. Even though studies are limited, there’s no harm in wearing them.

Blue light can sabotage your sleep schedule. Thus, if you are scrolling through your phone at night, these glasses might be a good option.

Is the Blue Light the Real Culprit of Eye Strain?

wearing blue light glasses may help digital eye strain

Many eye issues are not caused by blue light. Many people experience eye discomfort just by staring for hours at digital screens.

The symptoms would include watery eyes, dry eyes, blurred vision, headache, shoulder pain, and difficulty concentrating.

When you look at the computer screens, your eyes are shifting focus and moving while still looking at the screen.

The glare and contrast of the screen can also be tough on your eyes. Thus, you may experience eye irritation from 8 hours of working on your computer.

However, your eye discomfort may not be directly from the blue light.

When you stare at a digital screen for too long, you’re not blinking as you normally would. As a result, the cornea becomes dry and irritated.

That’s why it’s pertinent that you look ahead at a distant object to help relax your eyes.

What Other Ways to Protect Your Eyes from Digital Eyestrain?

In addition to wearing blue light glasses, you should also use artificial tears. They can keep your eyes lubricated while working at your computer.

These artificial tears can be used more than twice a day but not four times a day. If you need to use them more often than four times, then choose to use preservative-free tears.

Another way to reduce eye strain is to sit about 63 centimeters away from the screen. Sitting too close to the computer will make you experience eye strain.

To help with readability, you need to increase the font size.

You should start sitting at a comfortable distance away from your screen.

It’s also helpful to eat foods that are good for your eye’s health. What are these foods?

The number one on the list is the carrot. It’s high in beta-carotene. The body uses it to make vitamin A, which is vital for your eye health. Without it, it leads to dry eyes. It also results in night blindness or vision loss.

You should also eat kale. If you don’t like kale, broccoli and spinach will do. They are high in antioxidants that are great for your retina. These antioxidants can act as a filter and protect your eyes from the damaging effects of blue light.

Wearing Blue Light Glasses

Should I wear blue light glasses all day? There’s no harm in wearing them all day every day. But you should still need to practice proper distance from the screen and make sure to blink frequently. And follow the 20/20/20 rule.
